Frequently asked
Straight answers,no jargon.
The NDIS is confusing enough. Here's what people actually ask us — answered plainly.
- What services does Famycare actually provide?
- Nine NDIS services: accommodation support, assistance in daily living, development of life skills, hospital to home, individualised living options (ILO), nursing and complex care, participation in community, supported independent living (SIL), and short-term accommodation and respite. We do not provide support coordination or plan management — if you need those, we're happy to point you to someone who does.
- What makes Famycare different from other NDIS providers?
- We were founded and are still run by registered nurses. That means when a participant has complex clinical needs — wound care, medication, challenging behaviours — the person writing the support plan actually has the clinical background to do it safely. We also keep a registered nurse on call 24/7 for participants and staff.
- Do you support participants with complex or high-level needs?
- Yes. Complex care is our core strength rather than an exception. We regularly support participants that other providers have declined, including those with high clinical needs and challenging behaviours.
- What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
- SIL is help with everyday tasks in a shared or individual home — things like personal care, cooking, cleaning and medication — so you can live as independently as possible. It's usually for people with higher support needs. You can read more on our supported independent living page.
- What are Individualised Living Options (ILO)?
- ILO puts you in charge of your living arrangement instead of placing you in a group home. You might live alone with support, with a host family, with a co-resident, or with someone you already know. We help you design the arrangement, then deliver the supports.
- Can Famycare provide respite or short-term accommodation?
- Yes. Short-Term Accommodation (STA), often called respite, gives you a change of scene and gives families and carers a genuine break. We also arrange medium-term stays of up to 90 days — useful while waiting on home modifications or recovering after a hospital stay.
- How do I start supports with Famycare?
- Call us, send a message, or complete the referral form. We'll talk through what you need, check it fits your NDIS plan, and arrange a time to meet. There's no cost and no obligation to have that first conversation.
- Can I switch to Famycare from another provider?
- Yes — you can change NDIS providers at any time. You'll need to give your current provider the notice set out in your service agreement. We can walk you through it and make the handover as smooth as possible.
- Which areas do you cover?
- We're based in Narre Warren and support participants across Greater Melbourne and Regional Victoria, including Berwick, Dandenong, Cranbourne, Pakenham and Frankston.
- How much do your services cost?
- We charge in line with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, which the NDIA sets and publishes. Your costs depend on which supports you use and how they're funded in your plan. We'll always be clear about pricing before you commit to anything.
